ECR Vice-President of the transport committee Peter van Dalen will present his report on the 2009-2018 Maritime Transport Strategy to the committee. In his report, Mr van Dalen highlights the vital importance of the European maritime transport sector to the community's internal economy and to Europe's transport system.
Mr van Dalen stresses that for the competitiveness of the maritime transport sector in the global market, Europe should acknowledge that the sector operates in a global market. For this reason, Europe should be careful with creating new rules on social affairs and environment. The EU Maritime sector should not be stimulated to transfer their ships from Europe to another part of the world. Furthermore, Mr van Dalen stressed the need for the correct implementation of the new safety rules in the EU Maritime sector.
