The ECR group has initiated a debate in the parliament on the situation in Georgia. ECR chairman Michal Kaminski will underline that the EU should be firmly committed to Georgia's territorial integrity and provide humanitarian aid, inquire about the inability of EU monitors to access occupied territories, and address kidnappings from Georgian villages adjacent to the Russian zone of occupation, which have become a common Russian practice ever since it invaded Georgia in August 2008.
ECR foreign affairs spokesman Charles Tannock will speak in the debate on Afghanistan and Pakistan. He will argue that the EU should support a stable, democratic and prosperous Pakistan as the key to security in the region. He will also call for the EU to assist with strengthening institutions of security and governance in Afghanistan.
The parliament will also debate the situation in Belarus, particularly after the foreign affairs committee was informed by the commission that the situation had improved and the EU was considering stepping-up relations. ECR member of the delegation for relations with Belarus, Marek Migalski, will lead for the group during the debate.
Debate: Wednesday @ 15.00
