WEEK AHEAD WITH ECR GROUP

New media

6th - 10th September 2010 - Strasbourg

A report to be voted on this week was initially meant to look at ways new media was changing journalism. However, it has become a wish list for improving how MEPs and the EU institutions are reported in the media. Proposals include a European training programme for journalists, a fund to support student media to cover EU matters, more money for parliament's information offices and more money for EU communication policy.

ECR culture spokesman Emma McClarkin MEP will vote against the report, arguing that MEPs have missed an opportunity to look at encouraging democratic engagement through social media in deference to a vanity exercise.

Vote: Tuesday @ 12.00
