Pakistan floods

EU crisis response commissioner Kristalina Georgieva will discuss the EU's reaction to the Pakistan floods with the parliament's development committee. ECR development spokesman Nirj Deva MEP welcomes the response of both the EU and the 11 EU countries that have donated €220 million for emergency aid.

ECR member Sajjad Karim MEP, chairman of the European Parliament's Friends of Pakistan Group, last week organised a fundraising dinner which raised almost £150,000 for the effort. He wrote to Baroness Ashton asking her to raise Pakistan at the Foreign Affairs Ministerial meeting next week so that Ministers can discuss further liberalisation of trade access to assist with the longer-term recovery. The issue has now been placed on the agenda.
